Matt needs some new moves, and probably a new suitcase.

I participated in a a couple of short running races in each of the last two weekends.

First the Twin Peaks Rotary XC Challenge, a race organized by my friend Jason K. It is a smallish race that takes place at the local County fairgrounds and like its name suggests, it is not on the road, but rather had me running on leafy trails, hopping hay-bails, running off-camber slopes, nearly twisting ankles avoiding vermin holes and bogging down on soft sand over 3.5 pain-filled miles. Proceeds of the event benefit the Longmont Twin Peaks Rotary Club's scholarship program, so a fun morning for a good local cause. I mustered an average 6:16/mile pace before joining Julia for a lap of her own in the kids race. Surprisingly, she ran the entire 1.2 miles and didn't take me up on the short-cut option. She loves the ribbons she earns at the finish. results

This past weekend was another town race the local 10k Turkey Trot. While I was off trying to keep a very fit - and very IM Arizona ready - BJ within my site, the girls took to the 2 mile. Apparently, E has inherited her dad's habit of going out too fast at the gun, she dropped Chris and left her frantically weaving through the crowds with stroller to retrieve her. This one had me average 6:31/mile and garnered me a goofy Turkey trophy for 3rd in age group, which E quickly claimed (see pic) results.
I need to keep it going with these shorter local runs. They are good for the speed and a nice change of pace from the lonely trips around the golf curse and bike paths. Good fuel for the winter...
